The method

How to run your
free GMB audit.

A Google Business Profile audit reviews your public listing and local search presence to identify useful improvements. Start with the branch and searches that matter to your customers.

  1. Find and confirm your listing.

Enter your business name and city or a Google Maps link. Choose the correct branch in the US, Canada, UK, or Australia. You can correct the website before starting.

  2. Choose what customers search for.

Edit the suggested terms to match your services, such as “sandwich shop” or “biryani.” Select one to three phrases and a 3, 5, or 10 km radius around the listing.

  3. Review your results and next steps.

Allow around 2–3 minutes after confirmation. Results appear as checks finish. Review the evidence behind each recommendation, then print or save your report as a PDF.

The tool uses public listing data, reviews, Google Maps search results, and website pages. It cannot verify every setting in your owner dashboard. Confirm any suggested category, service, or wording before making changes.

Google describes local ranking in terms of relevance, distance, and prominence. Read Google’s guidance on improving local rankings alongside your recommendations. Adding keywords does not guarantee a higher position.

Good to know

Google Business Profile
audit FAQs.

Real measurements.
Clear about their limits.

Is a GMB audit the same as a Google Business Profile audit?

Yes. GMB stands for Google My Business, the former name of Google Business Profile. A GMB audit and a GBP audit both review a business listing and its local search presence. This tool combines public profile data with sampled Maps rankings, reviews, website checks, and recommended next steps.

Is the Google Business Profile audit really free?

Yes. The audit is free during the pilot, subject to daily availability and usage limits. There is no sign-up, email gate, credit card, or Google login. If a data source is unavailable, the report identifies that gap and shows the findings that were collected.

Do I need to give you access to my Google account?

No. The free audit only uses public information: your listing, reviews, live Google Maps search results, and pages on your website. No Google connection is needed for the audit. If you later choose SmallForce for ongoing management, you connect the account you are authorized to manage.

How does the Google Maps ranking checker work?

Choose one to three search phrases and a 3, 5, or 10 km radius. The tool checks Google Maps at nine coordinates around your confirmed listing for each phrase. It records positions in the first 20 results and compares businesses in those same searches. A point marked 20+ means the listing was not found in those results; an unmeasured point stays unknown.

How accurate are the results?

Every ranking in the report is a real, sampled Google Maps result for your chosen phrases, on desktop at a fixed zoom level. It is a snapshot, not an exhaustive list of every keyword you rank for, and keyword volumes are country-level estimates rather than city demand. The report states its limitations directly.

How can I improve my Google Maps ranking after the audit?

The report helps you choose what to review and improve, but it cannot promise a higher position. Google says local results mainly depend on relevance, distance, and prominence. Check that your category, services, hours, and contact details accurately describe the business. Use relevant keywords naturally on useful website pages, respond to customer feedback, and measure the same searches again after making changes.

Which Google Business Profile keywords should I use?

Start with the services and products customers come to you for. Edit the suggested searches before running the audit, then compare their measured Maps positions. Use relevant phrases naturally in helpful service descriptions and website content. Keep your business name accurate; do not add keywords just to influence rankings. Suggested keywords in the report are separate from searches whose rankings were measured.

Is this a complete local SEO audit or ongoing rank tracker?

It is a one-time Google Business Profile audit with local ranking and limited website checks. It does not provide ongoing rank tracking, a full website crawl, backlink analysis, directory citation checks, or private Google Business Profile performance data. The report separates measured rankings from suggested keywords whose positions have not been checked.

How long does the audit take?

Allow around 2–3 minutes after you confirm your listing. This is an estimate; timing depends on the searches and data providers. A progress view shows completed checks and results appear as they arrive. If you return in the same browser with local storage available, the page resumes your audit.

What happens to my report?

The report is accessed using a private key saved in your browser and is available for 30 days. It is not published or indexed. You can print it or save it as a PDF. Clearing browser storage removes your saved access.

Can SmallForce fix the issues the audit finds?

SmallForce's AI employees can help you draft review replies, prepare Google Business Profile posts, and write relevant business content using your instructions and connected apps. Create an account, connect the profile you manage, and choose the work and approvals. The free audit does not change your listing, automatically import its report into your account, or guarantee better rankings. Account plans are separate from the free audit.

Which countries does the audit support?

The audit currently supports businesses in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, in English or French.
