# Set up SmallForce for your organization

Use this sequence for a new organization or client account.

## 1. Confirm the organization

Select the organization you want to work in before adding employees, files, channels, or connected accounts. Organization-owned resources stay associated with that organization.

Technical users can verify the organization attached to an API key with:

```bash
smallforce org get
```

## 2. Prepare an employee

Choose the employee that will own the first workflow. Give it a clear role, describe the result it is responsible for, and provide any operating constraints it should consistently follow. See [AI employees](/docs/employees/overview).

## 3. Add business knowledge

Upload the documents the employee should use: brand guidance, service descriptions, client notes, policies, research, spreadsheets, or existing content. SmallForce indexes supported files so they can be searched from the workspace. See [workspace search](/docs/workspace/search).

## 4. Connect where work happens

Connect [Slack or Telegram](/docs/channels/overview) when a team wants to work with employees from an existing communication channel. Connect external applications through [integrations](/docs/integrations/overview) when the employee needs to react to events or execute provider tools.

## 5. Give a concrete first task

Start with an outcome that can be verified, such as:

- “Use our brand files to draft next week’s social posts.”
- “Create a website for this client and deploy a preview.”
- “Review this meeting transcript and list every commitment.”
- “Research competing local businesses and save the findings.”

Add the relevant files and expected deliverable. The employee can ask for missing information before acting.
